Microchip Technology's Nantes facility in France has achieved QML Class Y certification, expanding its qualifications for manufacturing high-reliability components for space applications. This new certification specifically covers non-hermetic components, complementing its existing Class V (space-grade hermetic) and Class Q (military-grade hermetic) certifications. The Nantes facility, along with its San Jose counterpart, is now certified for all three QML classes, reinforcing Microchip's role in supplying critical technology for space and defense.

Kennametal is hosting a free webinar on June 23 at 12 p.m. ET titled "Thin Wall Machining of High-Temp Alloys" to address the challenges of machining thin wall features in high-temperature alloys for aerospace designs. The webinar will feature aerospace machining experts Steve George, Kevin Howard, and Chris Stewart, who will share best practices, tooling considerations, productivity strategies, and new technologies to overcome issues like vibration, deflection, and tool life limitations. Attendees will learn how to maintain tight tolerances and improve part quality in these demanding applications.
Applied Materials is investing $500 million to expand its manufacturing and R&D operations in Singapore with a new Tampines Campus, doubling its cleanroom capacity. This expansion supports the increasing global demand for semiconductors driven by AI and is part of the company's Singapore 2030 strategy, aiming to add approximately 1,000 local jobs. The advanced facility will utilize automation, AI, and green building technologies to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
Ford is recalling over 250,000 Focus models (2012-2018) due to a recurring engine stall risk caused by a faulty canister purge valve, which was not correctly fixed in a previous recall. The issue can cause the engine to stall while driving, and Ford plans to address this with a free powertrain software update. Owners will be notified in early July.
AeroVironment (AVAV) is investing $15 million to expand its advanced production capabilities in Greene County, Ohio, creating around 200 new jobs. This expansion aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing for critical defense and biotechnology programs and enhance U.S. defense manufacturing capacity. The project includes new facilities in Beavercreek and Xenia, located near the Air Force Research Laboratory and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
